Getting
Your Vocal Pitch Right
Getting the pitch right is initially one of the most important aspects of singing. Some
experts say that most singers have pitch problems, even the professionals. The question is how much you can be off
pitch and for how long you can stay off pitch. The variations can be so slight sometimes that they are unnoticeable
to the untrained ear, but for singers who just want to learn to sing and have noticeable pitch problems it can be
blatantly obvious, even to the least trained ear.

So Exactly What Is Singing Off
Pitch?
Quite simply, it's singing a note incorrectly, not necessarily singing the wrong note. Sounds like a
contradiction, but not really, you might sing a C, which in your head
might sound perfectly okay, but in actual fact it's not quite a C, nor is
it a C#, nor is it a B, while it may be any
of those notes, it is more likely to be somewhere in between and it just sounds wrong, especially if a
few notes in a bar are sung in this 'not quite right' way. The good news is though, that
singing off pitch can be fixed. You can re-train your brain to recognize the correct sound the
note should make, which makes for a more pleasant experience for both you and your
listeners. |
Singing On Pitch
Products The following singing packages concentrate specifically on teaching methods
necessary for training your ear to hear the note or pitch correctly and then to help you sing it at the correct
pitch. They all approach the subject differently but the result is the same. You might find that one approach is
better than another. Read the information pages to determine which one suits your situation best.
On Pitch Singing The
On Pitch Singing Program is a software
application that analyses your pitch and shows you how to correct the anomalies specific to your voice. Being
software, it is more likely to be an accurate and unbiased critic. The information page boasts that it will get
you singing on pitch in ten minutes, that's quite a statement, but if you want to sing in pitch badly enough it
may be worth trying out. Have a read of the Information Page yourself and view the videos to see how it works. It might be just what
you need.
Pitch Master Pro
When it comes to pitch, there are really two types, (well three if you want to include off pitch),
Absolute or Perfect pitch and Relative pitch. Most good singers and musicians have relative pitch, very
few have perfect pitch. The difference is that relative pitch allows you to recognize a note based on knowledge of
another note. In other words, if I hear a note that I know is an F#, I will be able to tell other notes based on
this knowledge. I have a reference point on which to compare, but without knowing that the given note was F#, I
would not be able to tell any other notes I hear. On the other hand absolute or perfect pitch means I can tell the
name of any note I am given without having to compare that note with any other note. Like you can tell a letter is
'x' or 'y' simply by looking at it. This ability is far and few between, but Pitch Master Pro, which is also a software program, promises to show the user how to attain
both absolute and relative pitch. The difference is how much work you want put into it. Check out the Information Page and see if it appeals to you.
Pure Pitch Method
The Pure Pitch Method works on building up the inner ear. According to
the advertising material on the web site the Pure Pitch Method has been
acknowledged by musicians all around the world as the fastest and easiest approach to developing pitch recognition
anywhere. That's for you to judge, but unlike On Pitch Singing and Pitch Master Pro the Pure Pitch Method is not a software program it works on the direct sound recognition
methodology of and employs standard principles that music teachers have known about and used for
centuries.
